What is a Neuromodulator?
Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin® are all drug names for different preparations of botulinum toxin that are used in the comedic industry to cause a temporary relaxation in muscle contractions over a very specific area.
Reducing or eliminating dynamic wrinkles leads to a smoother, younger looking face – as well as prevents deeper static wrinkles from forming later on.
What areas are commonly treated?
- Forehead lines
- Frown, or 11 lines between the eyebrows
- Crow’s feet of the eyes
- Bunny lines on the nose
- Smile lines, drooping of the mouth
- Dimpled chin
- Masseter for slimming of the cheeks
- Platysmal bands of the neck
Common Concerns and Questions
I am concerned I will look “Frozen” or unnatural.
This is a very common, and completely fair concern. This is completely dependant on the training, skill and philosophy of the injector. The injections do no cause improper paralysis when given at the right doses, and injected in the proper places. Our approach is to be very conservative in dose and placement until a patient is familiar with exactly how their muscles react. This might mean that we need to touch you up a few weeks after your initial treatment, but it also means you will be kept looking natural and fresh, and able to express your emotions!
How often will I have to get treatment?
The results of your injections will last 3-4 months, and then your body will build new muscle connections, and the treatment can be repeated.
Will I look worse if I stop getting injections?
Absolutely not! There is no medical reason that injections would make you look worse when you decide to stop getting them. Your muscles build new connections constantly and will bounce back to their regular form quickly. If you do treatments for many years, then suddenly stop you may feel like you have aged very quickly, but it is simply your body catching up with your image. You will continue to age behind the treatments if you do not keep up with collagen production and sun protection. Regular microneedling and PRP can help with this.
Where are the doctors trained?
Proper training has been mentioned over and over, and for great reason. You can be confident in your results if your injector has been properly trained. Our doctors have completed their training with the Canadian Society of Skin Medicine, where she learned directly from Dr. Moon Choi, who is a leader in the field of medical aesthetics and has developed some of the safest and most effective techniques for neuromodulator injections.
What are the risks?
Most of the risk associated with neuromodulators comes from poor injection technique, or unexpected anatomical variations. These adverse effects could include drooping of the eyebrow or difficulty smiling/drooping mouth. In the unlikely event that something like that did happen, the muscles will return to completely normal in 3 months. Uncontrollable risks include allergic reaction and development of antibodies to botulinum t. Minor side effects can occur such as headache, bruising and discomfort.
